MT. LAUREL, N.J. October 7, 2020 – The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), the voice of the industry on quality and safety for baby and children’s products, announced key initiatives for 2021 during a live address for members today. Among the key priorities for the coming year will be establishing a sku-level verification program for baby and children’s products, serving as a brand-validator for members, launching operations for JPMA Cares, the industry Foundation, increasing one-on-one member engagement and continuing its critical public and government affairs activities.

One of JPMA’s biggest 2021 initiatives will be expansion of the current certification program into a sku-level product verification program, which will provide third-party validation to help both retailers and consumers easily identify safe, compliant baby and children’s products. JPMA has been working closely with members on the program and aims to roll out a pilot in early 2021.

From a strategic standpoint, JPMA will continue to focus on the activities that provide the most value to members, including government affairs on the federal and state levels, advocacy efforts related to specific product categories, the current JPMA Certification Program, providing support in the ASTM process and more, along with core activities that enable JPMA to excel in these areas, like consumer education, Baby Safety Month and media engagement.

“We know our role in legislative, regulatory and government affairs is absolutely critical to our members,” said Kelly Mariotti, executive director of JPMA. “Far beyond simply lobbying, we are involved from the local, state, federal and international levels whenever baby products are called out, which is often, but also where our member’s products are implicated, such as with tariffs and counterfeit products. This will continue to be our area of focus in 2021 and beyond.”

As JPMA strategically shifts away from connecting buyers and sellers, coupled with COVID-19 potentially affecting gatherings next year, the Association announced it will not host a trade show in 2021, but is planning for an in-person JPMA Summit next fall that will bring the industry together to collaborate on safety and regulatory topics. This event will also feature the JPMA Innovation Awards and a gala-style evening event to benefit JPMA Cares.

Throughout the year, members can also expect increased education opportunities through webinars, guest speakers and other resources. JPMA’s Foundation, JPMA Cares, will be established officially in 2021 as a 501(c)(3) as a way to capture all the good works and philanthropy done by the industry and to do even more good to support babies and families in need.
