SPSP is continuing its 2021 series of webinars on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 1pm EDT with a timely discussion of product safety management best practices as they relate to recall preparation.
To help us learn about these best practices, moderator Ken Ross will speak with two experienced product safety professionals, Chris Harvey and Jason Hertzberg, who will discuss important steps that should be considered by all manufacturers and product sellers before the decision is made to recall the product.
These steps actually start with the design of the product. Building traceability into the product and safety critical components can be very helpful if a recall is undertaken. In addition, contract analysis, post-sale surveillance of product use and investigation of near misses and actual incidents, interaction with suppliers and the distribution network, training of personnel, and development of a recall plan are all critical to making a timely and appropriate decision and implementing a successful recall.

Dr. Jason L. Hertzberg is a Corporate Vice President and Principal Engineer at Exponent, Inc., leading the firm’s global product safety consulting offering. Dr. Hertzberg routinely conducts Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) product recall investigations for Fortune 500 and privately held companies in North America as well as companies in Europe and Asia.
His broader consumer product work includes targeted testing and analysis of new products before they are introduced into the marketplace, management of change, use of risk methodologies, substantiation of product performance claims, failure analysis of field-returned products, product recall investigations, evaluation of correction action plans, and product liability.
Chris Harvey is SVP of Client Services at Sedgwick, Brand Protection. Chris leads a team of recall strategists and works with clients to ensure flawless implementation and customer integration throughout the entire product recall process. Throughout his career, he has managed more than 1,200 recalls, including hundreds of high-profile recalls and withdrawals for the Nation’s largest pharmaceutical and CPG companies. He is recognized as an expert in the recall industry and routinely speaks on best practices for recall planning and execution. Chris is also a board member of the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO).
